Six Senses Zighy Bay Oman
Overall Rating 4/5
The award-winning remote hideaway is a true haven for relaxation and privacy. Cradled by craggy mountains of the Musandam Peninsula, this unique hidden gem offers luxury villas with private pools along with a wide range of activities and personalized service. It gives the feeling of exotic remoteness, yet offers every comfort you can think of. Perfect for a romantic trip away from the city.
Six Senses Zighy Bay is located on the northern Musandam Peninsula in the Sultanate of Oman, only a scenic 2 hour drive away from Dubai. The closest airport is Dubai International Airport (DXB). It is a forty-five minute drive from Ras al Khaimah Airport for private jets.
For entering Oman overland, you will need a pre-arranged border pass which has to be issued by the hotel (to be requested at least 3 days in advance).
A dramatic arrival through the Hajar Mountains gives that first glimpse of Zighy Bay and the impression is not only of a hotel but an authentic Omani village which stretches along a 1.6 kilometer long private beach.
The downside of the beautiful remoteness is that there are no food and beverage options outside of the hotel. Everything you consume comes either from the hotel outlets’ or from whatever you bring along with you to Zighy Bay.
Style & Character 5/5
The resort resembles in many ways a traditional Omani village, with narrow passages between the individual villas and palm shaded, sandy roads and an almost car-free environment.
The resort is carefully designed and furnished to reflect local Omani culture with natural stones and warm wood. The 82 beautifully designed and spacious villas blend into the outstanding landscape.
The resort is well spread out – about 600 meters in length. Golf buggies run between the villas to escort the guests. In addition, each villa has bicycles available for guests to navigate within the resort.
The property also has a very active environmental program. The swimming pools are filled with sea water and unlike in other hotels, the water is not chilled. Plastic is almost banned at the resort, the drinking water at is produced in-house and they also arrange monthly beach clean-ups activities.
Service & Facilities 4/5
Zighy Bay provides excellent personalized service. Upon check-in, a private butler will be appointed to ensure every need is catered for during your stay. If you need anything, simply call the direct line of your butler from the villa.
Everything comes with an extra touch; cold towels and welcome drink during check in, water bottles upon departure for your way home and attentive and pro-active service at the restaurants and beach. If you have any special requests in terms of food and beverages, they go the extra mile to satisfy their guests.
The resort provides all kind of facilities and activities you can possibly think of to cater the concept of being in a complete remote location.
From a library, DVD rental, beach, two swimming pools, kids club, gym, signature spa, tennis court, cooking classes and a cinema.
The wide range of outdoor activities include kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling, paragliding, scuba diving, Dhow cruises, mountain biking and fishing. Unfortunately the prices for some of these activities are on the higher side.
Free WiFi is available across the resort. It is fast and reliable.
There are four restaurants and two bars. The restaurants offer traditional Arabic food and casual, as well as fine dining international cuisine. Some of the outlets offer romantic settings with panoramic views over the bay.
While breakfast, lunch and dinner offers good quality food and portions, it is really expensive. The resort certainly knows that guests have no other option than dining in-house and takes advantage of it by charging high prices.
Unfortunately there is no shisha lounge at the hotel.
You can also order room service or request for in-villa barbecues, cooked and served by your butler.
If you like to have breakfast included in your rate, you need to make the booking with the property directly (not via third party websites).
Room category booked: Pool Villa (Standard category)
The total inventory consists of 82 standalone, private villas – some directly located by the beach. Inside you’ll find high indigenous-style ceilings, a colorfully cushioned living area and a heavenly soft bed made, with unbleached cotton sheets topped with your choice of ergonomic pillows.
The spacious bathroom includes a bathtub, shower and all kind of amenities.
Outside, within the privacy of high cobblestone walls, every villa comes with sun loungers, a shaded living and dining areas and a decently sized private swimming pool with adjustable temperature.
Highlights are the outside rain shower and the wine fridge. The fully stocked minibar items are decently priced.
Value for money 3/5
Rates start from USD 939 during low season and USD 2100 (including taxes) during high demand periods. Even tough the product is stunning and unique, the price per night is extremely high considering that you will have unavoidable spending’s on food and beverage on top of it.
