Overall Rating 4/5
Set right opposite Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport’s terminal building, Holiday Inn Santiago offers modern, comfortable and quiet rooms. Overall, one of the superior Holiday Inn properties and a great option for everyone looking for a convenient and fairly priced stopover accommodation in Santiago. The hotel also offers attractive day use and late check out rates.
Holiday Inn Santiago Airport is located directly in front of the arrival/departure terminal, a few steps away from the baggage claim area. Literally just cross the road, no need to wait for a shuttle bus.
This makes it ideal for everyone wanting a smooth stopover between two flights without having to take public transportation into the city.
On the downside, as with most airport properties, the hotel surroundings do not offer much – no restaurants, or shops , except for the ones located within the terminal. The Holiday Inn is the only airport hotel in Santiago de Chile.
Service & Facilities 3.5/5
For the leisure part, the hotel offers a sauna (male & female seperate), gym and an indoor pool. I found it ideal for winding down after staying in basic hostels in remote places for 2 weeks. You can also request for a massage at a surcharge.
In addition, there’s a small lounge for relaxing in, as well as a smokers’ lounge.
Business facilites include several meeting rooms and a small business centre with computers and printers. Unlimted free WiFi is available throughout the building and working very well.
The service at the hotel was spotless and efficient. However, I had some issues during the booking process.
For me it was crucial to get a late check-out as my flight was in the evening.
When enquiring about the cost for a late check-out, the reservation department could not provide the information.
Several emails forth and back, no luck. No information was available online.
Only upon check in, I was able to find out that the cost is 50% of the room rate for check out’s until 6pm.
Room category booked: Double Room (Standard category)
The rooms, set over six floors, are all non-smoking and most importantly, soundproof. The noise from the planes is so minimal that you almost can’t hear it.
The size of the rooms appreared to be more spacious compared to some other Holiday Inns I have seen.
Rooms are comfortable, modern and sleek, offering a very relaxing place to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the airport.
The beds were super comfortable as well.
All rooms have a working desk, coffee machine and en-suite bathrooms with bathtub. I really enjoyed their bathroom amentities; Bath & Body Works products.
A few small things that can be improved:
- It was one of those old hairdryers, it definitely needs to be replaced.
- Instead of a coffee machine, a kettle would be better. Some people prefer a tea or a hot chocolate over coffee.
- The TV only had two English channels: BBC & CNN. Considering it’s an airport hotel with mainly international guests, there could be more choices.
- It’s not recommended to drink tap water in Chile hence the only option is to buy the expensive water from the room service or airport shops. A bottle of complimentary in the room water would be a nice touch.
Food & Drinks 4/5
Limited food options – guests can either eat at the hotel restaurant or inside the airport terminal.
Within the hotel, guests can choose from the room service menu, enjoy a meal at Grill Restaurant, or try an appetizer and drinks at Boarding Bar. The quality of the food at the restaurant is really good although on the expensive side.
Generally the food at the hotel is about 20%-30% higher than eating at the airport, but at a better quality.
Breakfast was a real highlight. A full American breakfast buffet with a great choice of fresh fruits, cold cuts, cheese and breads. There were also couple of egg and other hot items available. If that choice isn’t enough, guests can order additional hot items a la carte at fair prices.
The restaurant has indoor as well as outdoor tables, some of them with an inbuilt TV showing the latest news.
For the early birds: The hotel offers a small breakfast set for people catching flights before 5am.
Value for money 4/5
Rates start from USD 180 throughout the year. It’s more expensive than hotels of similar standard in the city, but you do save money and time public transport, so it ends up about the same.
The hotel certainly takes advantage of its position as the only hotel across from Santiago Airport, however overall
the product and service are worth the money.
Who is this accommodation for?
The Holiday Inn Santiago Airport is ideal for flights layover and people you don’t like to waste time commuting into the city. It’s also a great choice if you just want to relax and spoil yourself a bit in between flights.
