Boutique Hotel in Downtown Seattle: Hotel Andra
When I planned my 3-days trip to Seattle, I searched & searched for various accommodation options. I knew I’d want to be near the center of the city, as I wasn’t planning on renting a car.
Eventually I decided on the boutique hotel Hotel Ändra, in the centrally located Belltown neighborhood in Downtown Seattle.
What makes Hotel Ändra the best place to stay in Seattle? Most of Seattle’s attractions are within walking distance from the hotel. Almost no need for public transport. Definitely the key advantage of the hotel. Hot Stove Society, a year-round themed cooking school operated by Tom Douglas, is located right at the hotel. They book up fast, so check the schedule for upcoming options well in advance. The warm design and cosy athmosphere. Scandinavian design elements combined with Pacific Northwest elements – water, wood and stone. Look at that fireplace in the lobby! The city’s best breakfast (Seattle Metropolitan Magaizine) is served at Lola, a Greek-inspired restaurant which is run by local celebrity chef Tom Douglas. Just make sure to make a reservation to avoid long waits.
Perfect location for sightseeing, dining and shopping
In a city like Seattle it’s all about location, location, location. Especially if you are a first-time visitor (like me).
Hotel Ändra is located in downtown Seattle just a few blocks from the Seattle Waterfront and Pike Place Market, a century-old bastion where you can browse farm stands, nibble samples from artisanal food shops, watch fish arrive fresh off the boat and visit the world’s first Starbucks branch.
The Seattle Art Museum, the Seattle Aquarium and the ferry terminal are also just blocks away, as is near the monorail, which can take you directly to the iconic Space Needle.
Shoppers can take the short stroll to the flagship Nordstrom the Westlake Center, mall or several mainstream shops. CVS is nearby for essentials.
Getty hungry? Hotel is surrounded by the best of Seattle’s restaurant scene.
In additon to Lola, there is also an Italian restaurant located right next door and Dahlia Bakery, Dahlia Lounge and Serious Pie (amazing flat breads) are located directly across the street.
Other dining options abound within a 5-10 minute walk of the hotel. Or, if you prefer to stay in the hotel, you can order room service from Lola and Serious Pie.
Spacious, quiet and comfortable rooms
I stayed in the Ändra Superia Room (Superior Room).
When I entered the room I stepped into a little entree with the bathroom on the left and a walk in closet on the right. In front a one king-sized bed and spacious sitting area. The room had a sleek and warm feel created by modern minimalist furniture, earthy colours and a subtle Scandinavian design.
Furnished with a sofa, a spacious work area, a granite counter bar with minibar and coffee maker and a 37″ flat-screen TV – the room got everything one wants. Plus plenty of space to spread out.
The bathroom though on the small side, was smartly designed, with walk-in showers and large mirrors. Some rooms also have a bathtub (available on request).
Amenities such as Face Stockholm bath products, CubieBlue Bluetooth Alarm clock and the Starbucks coffee I mentioned earlier add a nice touch.
Good to knowThe hotel has also a fitness room (if you still have energy after sightseeing). It is small but well-stocked with cardio machines, weights, and little flat-screen TV’s to keep you entertained. Do you want access to hot (bikram) yoga? Urban Yoga Spa is a block away with special offers for guests. Arriving without car? Getting to the hotel from Seattle-Tacoma airport is possible by Transit. Alternatively, Uber rates are about USD 35. WiFi is free of charge, accessible in the entire hotel and from my experience, very reliable. Starbucks coffee is available in each room and complementary. Overnight valet parking is available at USD 39/night. Cheaper options nearby start from USD 24/night.
Live like a local – we all wanna do that, right? Hotel Andra got its own blog sharing insider tips on what to see and do in Seattle. Check it out!
I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Ändra . You can’t beat it for location and the convenience of being able to walk to most places in the core downtown area of Seattle. Plus, for a single traveller like me, the area felt very safe.
Wanna book? Rates at Hotel Ändra start from USD 169 per night (double occupancy, exlusive taxes).
